Sex educators in North Texas worry about pregnancy prevention after heartbeat bill

DALLAS — J.R. Chester, a project director with the statewide advocacy organization Texas Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, is a repeat teen mom. Now, she spends her career trying to educate kids and adults about their sexual health.

Terry Greenberg, founder of the North Texas Alliance to Reduce Unintended Pregnancy in Teens (NTARUPT), has done this work for about ten years -- fighting for change at the local and state level, and bringing sex education tools to schools across North Texas.

After Senate Bill 8 passed, effectively banning all abortions in Texas after 6 weeks of pregnancy, North Texans went out to the streets to protest. Sex educators say the state cannot mandate bans on abortions without providing proper sex education to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
